Spiritual GPS
Looking out the window there is a slight glimmer on the horizon - the sun is waking up and the
birds are starting to chirp The buds on the trees are starting to show green and the flowers are
showing signs of color. Something is happening! Nature and God have a wonderful way of
renewing things on this green earth so that we may enjoy all the things that God has made.
How wonderful this time of the year is, not just for the kids who maybe have not realized how all
this happens, but for us older people and ancients who have realized this year after year.
This is Easter time and renewal is also in the works for us as well. Think of this as a time of
renewal for us spiritually. For some, it has really been a time or renewal or rebirth as they come
into the Church for the rest of their lives. Their lives have changed, There is new life in their
souls, for some that life has never been there. They have never been baptized. For others,
maybe a change in life has brought back that life that was once there but for some reason due
to weakness of human nature, saving life was forfeited for something more attractive at the
moment. Their souls have been starving for a long time waiting for that nourishment of God’s
grace to come back and revitalize everything the way it should be. For some it is a quiet
renewal, a time to thank God for His gift of salvation and a promise on our part to really try to do
better this coming year of God’s grace.
As we watch things grow outside, watching the grass in its unceasing growth and the flowering
trees and bushes develop as we spread our plant food on all of God’s gifts, we might just think
of the things we need to help us in our daily lives. Think of the graces we miss if we do not take
advantage of daily Mass and Holy Communion to nourish our souls You see, God’s
nourishment takes place in the woods as trees decay and renew the soil so His work gets done
whether we use or Vigoro or not. He takes care of His Nature. We have to take care of our
nature and soul We can do this by adding to our prayers, maybe by saying that extra rosary,
making time in our lives for just that extra little bit of nourishment that we need. We can add to
that nourishment by doing a few corporal works of mercy, again making time in our lives to do
just that. We can read His Word daily by setting aside a little time to read and learn just what
He has said in His book. Oh, there are so many things we an do to continue to rebuild on that
renewal we went through at Easter - and it is so simple!
As I look out the window again the sun has broken through the horizon and another day has
been given to us to enjoy. New buds will open, birds will be on the wing getting nests ready for
new offspring new dappled little fawns will be running around behind their mothers - all signs of
Nature’s renewal and necessity of the dependence we have on each other in God’s world. So
too, we have this dependence on each other as children of God in helping each other in our
constant renewal.
How great it would be if we could think of others in their striving in continuation for their renewal
as God reminds us that His Nature is continually renewed, not just annually but daily, a task He
has accepted because of His love for us and it is a task that is always productive of beauty of
Nature - ours is that of beauty of soul.
