The Catholic Church honors next month the spouse of the Blessed Mother as close to the feast of the annunciation as she can get. Throughout the world today, this is a holiday of obligation and the United States is probably one of the nations that does not have it listed as one of theirs.
We measure true greatness by the amount of Sanctifying grace a person has. With St. Joseph we have a tremendous example of the graces God has given him.
a) How much grace must have filled the soul of Joseph since he probably was sanctified before his birth and this grace increased steadily during his life?
b) As foster father of the divine Child he was invested with the authority to command the Word Incarnate: - the Word by whom all things were made obeyed him, a mere creature
c) As spouse of Mary he was husband and master of her from whom the angels consider it an honor to take orders
St. Joseph and his humility
a) A quiet life - a hidden life - a life where he did not want to be in the forefront
b) He was satisfied with his daily life with Jesus and Mary
c) He was of noble blood, but did not seek to be recognized or be honored
d) He appeared to be of no account in the eyes of men - sought no publicity
e) Where in the Gospels do we find much about him? He was a Just MAN
That is about all that is said of him.
We could use him as well as Mary as examples of humility in our daily lives, especially if we have a tendency to be in the forefront of everything.
