Last month I reviewed a question that has been going through my mind about a statement from
Pope Francis about our responsibility as Catholic adults. At that time I could not get the exact
statement (my desk has some clutter on it) but after a little work came up with the statement...
Here it is:
“I have a dogmatic certainty: God is in every person’s life. God is in everyone’s life.
Even if the life of a person has been a disaster, even if it is destroyed by vices, drugs
or anything else – God is in this person’s life. You can, you must try to seek God in
every human life. Although the life of a person is a land full of thorns and weeds, there
is always a space in which the good seed can grow. You have to trust God.”
Pope Francis, Interview with Ls Civilta Cattolica Sept 30, 2013
It appeared to me that he was in his way speaking to us Legionaries about our relationship to
the cases we deal with. Do we really see that life in those cases or are we just thinking that? If
we’re really getting his idea that we should work on each individual soul, then the time we work
on a case is immaterial, as long as we continue to work on that case as well as all others.
Every month we read four little sections of the handbook, and if we look at the last reading it
seems like it is as close if not the same as the Pope is hinting at. I know, and we have all had
the experience, that there are times we really have to go out and make that certain call which
we, in our poor knowledge, have the certainty that nothing can be done with that particular
soul. Again, what does the Pope say? “You have to trust God.”
The workings of God, Mary and her Son are something to marvel at. We never know or have
the faintest idea of how things go on in the minds of the almighty – all we know that sometimes,
something happens and we cannot figure just what “we” did to help achieve the result. Francis
says “trust God”. If nothing else comes from these little writings every month maybe we can
reflect on how God has worked with us to bring back that soul to His arms.
May you all have a wonderful day. If you have a computer look at wwwZenit.com and see what
else the Holy Father says. God bless.
