Spiritual GPS
You know, there is so much we can know about God as we look at His nature. While watching the ebb and flow of the surf on the ocean. We see the constant in and out, back and forth, never leaving a hole where the previous surf had disappeared but again filled with new things including new shells.
As we have watched the trees and bushes in the last few weeks, we see the magnificent colors that He has placed there for us before He takes them away for a while and replaces the with flowering trees and bushes in the Spring. How wonderful He is! And all of this takes place without any help from us. Did you ever wonder whether God might be trying to tell us something for our nature? Something, that by watching, we might get the idea that there is always something renewed in or souls, with His help.
There are times in our lives when we feel down, depressed and wonder if there is a future to things that we are doing. We stay that way sometimes when we really should be thinking of the surf and the trees and leaves. We let the surf and leave in our lives just never return. God has always replenished our lives and souls when we cooperate with Him. We are like the surf that never comes back, the leaves that never begin to grow again in the Spring- and what would happen if God allowed that to happen? We would not have the beautiful earth He created for us - it would dry up with dead limbs with nothing growing on them, no fruit, no grass, not a living thing. - only death all over.
God has given us a tremendous time of the year when we can get the surf to flow again, the leaves to start budding and all the good things in our lives filled with fruition. And we call this period Advent. A time for us to sort of stand back a little and see what we can do spiritually to better our lives and bring us out of the doldrums we might be in. We might see that God haws different waves of surf to fill those that went back to sea, different leaves to renlace those that have fallen and are zone in our lives. Spaces and times in our days that can be filled with something different, something that will bring Him close to us, or us closer to Him.
For a Legion member, that might be another Rosary for the Blessed Lady, a time in our lives to spend a little in reading of the Scriptures, or a time in our lives to start some good spiritual reading, food for the soul- a time to let the leaves begin to grow again, to let the surf rush again onto the sand in our lives and bring with it new shells.
For some, Advent can sort of be like a doldrums in our lives spiritually. Some fill their lives with tinsel and wrapping paper, good cheer and drinks, and all the while the surf never comes back the leaves still lay on the ground. Our lives can be much different, keeping mind that God always replenishes and increases what was there previously if we give Him a chance to do His thing. We can use this time for a time of storing up nourishment for our souls, a time to rejoice as we sing “0 Come Emmanuel” and put those things again in the doldrums that might have been there. HAVE A HAPPY ADVENT
